As I was recently studying the book of Luke, some verses about Jesus’ temptation caught my attention, and I got clearer picture of the meaning of these verses:
The devil led him up to a high place and showed him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world. And he said to him, “I will give you all their authority and splendor; it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to. If you worship me, it will all be yours.” – Luke 4: 5-7.
It is clearly shown in the above scripture that the devil rules the kingdom of this world and he tried to lure Jesus to fall for his offer, but Jesus resisted and rebuked him. The devil is so powerful that he showed Jesus the entire kingdom of the world in just a moment, which is like marketing yourself to a client with just one slide presentation, which is an excellent strategy, but Jesus did not fall for the strategy. Today the devil has led so many to high places and showed them the kingdom of this world in a moment and they fell for him without hesitation. You may not understand this yet; let me break it down further with examples.
At your place of work, you may be in a position where you have access to huge amount of money, and the devil will make you steal/embezzle the money or commit fraud by showing you the kingdom of this world in a moment that, if you have this huge money to yourself you will be able to live a good life, buy big houses, exotic cars, go on vacations, and so on. Many have fallen for this, especially politicians. In relationships, the devil also shows each parties how beautiful the kingdom of this world is with infidelities, giving you every reason to cheat. The devil has shown so many so-called men of God the kingdom of this world and they have deviated from the true gospel to prosperity, motivational, and casting and binding doctrines. These men of God are now passionate about the kingdom of this world that they have all the material things of this world.
These are few examples amongst many. The devil will not come to you physically to lead you to a high place in order to show you the kingdom of this world, the whole job is done in your mind or in the mind of someone who can convince/influence you, as we do not wrestle with flesh but spiritual forces (Ephesians 6). It will be foolish of you to think the devil will come in an ugly way, of course not; he will appear in the most attractive package as possible. He can offer you everything in the world but not salvation, which is freedom in Christ, that makes us superior to him, but if you do not understand your status in Christ then you may be vulnerable to his device.
